Delicious sucks again...some more

Thanks to sineala's post here (and someone linking me via pinboard), I got a heads up that Delicious is displaying the full name in your account publicly.

For some people, its no big deal, since they entered a psued/initials/their username, but for others it looks like their RL name is now displayed for all to see connected to their delicious username (which is frequently their fandom psued) and perhaps their fandom presence if they've linked to their LJ or other website.

Make sure to check your delicious account, and ensure your privacy! From comments in the post I referenced, it sounds like you have to overwrite the current name entered with something else to remove the name.

Pondering more and more just deleting my delicious, instead of letting it stay to preserve the data. I already *only* use pinboard for my personal bookmarks (though still use delicious for a comm). Hmmm.

I didn't even remember why I put there a part of my real name; it was some time ago: I was then really naïve ;)

And it's true you have to overwrite the current name; if you only delete the name/pseudo, it shows AGAIN on the main page and it's present in the settings even if you save new settings. This was strange and really, in the light of it, I don't think delicious care much about privacy...

I'm thinking about deleting the account on delicious too and maybe using diigo as my back up.

Who knows, it might be a hold-over from the Yahoo accounts or something. I, too, was so naive about that sort of thing when I first set up everything. Horrifying that they care that little for people's privacy!

One of the several reasons I'd not deleted my delicious was because it functions as a backup, but if I have no trust in the company, why keep up.

I'm almost sure it was. I thought about it and really, I did not give Delicious my name.

Yeah, and why keep my delicious account and feed their ego ("we have so many accounts, we are perfect, why should we change anything...")

I just visited Delicious for the first time in ages to check and I'm amused that despite the number of people it says I'm following, there's little more than a few bookmarks a month showing up on my "feed". I may do a deletion myself since the few Delicious accounts that I follow, I do so by RSS via gReader. Hmmm.

Hmmmm, following via RSS feed sounds like a fantastic idea! There's a couple people that are still only on delicious that I check up on occasionally that'd be a cool way to do so.

Yes, I'm really debating deleting my delicious account. They don't seem trustworthy, what with releasing people's real names like this. I'd left it up because all the fandom bookmarks on there are a great resource, but this is terrible!

After thinking about it, I went ahead and deleted mine. They're just so squirrelly still that I'd rather not have to worry about the account even being out there. Craziness.

I think I'll wait on deleting til I do some RSS feeds on some folks in my network that aren't bookmarking elsewhere, then do the same. :(

Thanks re the icon. Man, when I first logged into nu!Delicious and saw the weird icons they'd given everyone I was so, IDK, perplexed, maybe. That's basically what I said outloud at time: Why did they make me a honey badger? Although honey badgers are pretty cool.

Yeah, LJ is making all these weird changes and is never responsive to complaints or feedback. I just let my paid account expire. Plus, fandom activity is really dropping. :(
