Brick Fic and Vid Recs
I recently rediscovered my love for the movie Brick, a neo-film noir mystery set in a southern California high school starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
There is some fic out there, and I've found a couple fanvids, and a handfull of Brick/Inception crossovers. YAY.
First, some handy links:

Brendan Frye, starting to deal.
Duck Soup by Smercy | PG-13 | 9,467 words | gen
"Well," Brendan sighed. "That won't do."
Things get gummed after a friend of a friend is killed, and Brendan and Brain take on the bulls and the trade while figuring out who done it. Things fall into place and it's nothing but duck soup.
Damn Liars by Smercy | PG-13 | 676 words | sort-of Brendan/Laura
"Laura got out of jail on the exact day she turned eighteen and a half. She'd been pretty and rich, so the judge had gone easy on her, and it was very unlikely that her record would be blemished. The sky above her head seemed so wide open that it was almost a vacuum. The air was too crisp, and cigarettes on the outside didn't taste right.
Brendan was waiting for her outside the jail with scuffed shoes and a leather jacket. He didn't say anything, just watched her. He had a shiner, but his whole face had a bruised look about it. Laura hadn't expected him to stick around after high school. Really, she wished for her wardrobe and a manicure before having to deal with him."

If he had a ten, he'd spot it against the notes saying Brendan's run, Brendan's hiding, Brendan caught the fifteen north.
Lady Sings the Blues So Well by Fantasticmuse | PG-13 | 1,099 words | gen
It starts with a girl and ends in a gutter and that's pretty par for the course, as far as Brendan is concerned. He tries not to think about it. He tries not to think.

As is to be expected, once the bulls pick up Dode’s crew, it isn’t long before they start sniffing around the old gang. With Jerr under glass and Brendan underground, Brain gets called into Trueman’s office to get the third degree. Predictably, the first question they ask him is: “Do you know Brendan Frye?” “We used to drink out of the same bottle,” he says, with a practised nonchalance that stops just short of shrugging. “That was way back, though; we haven’t talked since Jerr.”

It's the kind of news they send in telegrams. Post-movie.

He's come to accept that reality is hazy if it even exists, every moment the manipulation of someone else's thoughts and desires that leave you broken and empty if you feel anything at all.
Written for the
inception_kink prompt: "crossover! arthur/brendan frye from brick. mostly i just want a way to have bashful bb jgl and manly suit wearing jgl together." Though it's gen.
Red Oni, Blue Oni by
sho_no_tabi | NC-17 | ~22,400 words | Arthur/Eames
We dream because we have to. Arthur can't dream like a normal person anymore, and the Id starts to surface while he's awake. He goes for help, to shake the "lucid" out of his dreams.
Written for the
inception_kink prompt in which Arthur and Eames go under together, not lucid dreaming, and have dark subconscious times together.
The crossover with Brick is entirely in Arthur's backstory, and is hinted at in dream-sequences; you really have to be familiar with Brick to recognize it. A fascinating story, but mind the warnings; there are some very vivid and horrific dream imagery and bloodplay.
Fire in the Dark by

the_ragnarok | PG | 4,138 words | gen, Arthur/Eames
Arthur used to be Brendan Frye, a kid who managed to beat Dominic Cobb at his own game while recovering from internal injuries. "Dom had worked with a number of people who could take a glance at him and give him his life story, but it was disconcerting coming from a teenager."
Written for the
inception_kink prompt: "Crossover where Arthur's backstory is that he used to be the hardboiled teenage detective character from Joseph Gordon-Levitt's movie Brick. It explains why he has such awesome information-gathering pointman skills! Plus he clearly learnt to kick ass to defend himself from all the people who beat him to a pulp in Brick."

After a job, the team goes out for drinks and Arthur is slipped a mickey as part of a kidnapping attempt. Eames stops the kidnappers and the incident brings the issues between the two to the forefront. Very interesting conversation and banter between the two.
The crossover with Brick is really blink-and-you-miss-it, but still fun.
Tunneldream by
cactus_rabbit | PG-13 | 2,225 words | Arthur/Eames
A boy named Brendan grew up to be a man named Arthur.
Written for the
inception_kink prompt: "Arthur changed his name after Emily in an attempt to both cut off his ties to the Incident and/or try to forget about what he lost. His parents are also unaware that he's still even alive—they think he was killed during the chaos during the power vacuum resulting from the Pin's death. Bonus points if he got into the dream business specifically because he wanted to stop dreaming and/or to learn to control his dreams to escape his nightmares..."
What Dreams May Come by Mortissimo /
mortissimo005 | PG-13 | 12,367 words | Brendan/Brain, Cobb/Mal, past Arthur/Eames
Arthur Brendan Frye's past is not as behind him as he'd thought it would be.
[Mostly for my own tracking purposes: There are several Brick/Inception crossover prompts on
inception_kink, though the only fills I'm aware of are listed above.]

If anyone has a tasty Brick story or vid to rec that's not on the list, let me know, cause I'd love to check it out.
